Marcel Gluchowski - 14U Head Coach

Favorite Coaching Quote:
“Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out” – John Wooden
“First master the fundamentals” – Larry Bird
“I think that you might be so sure that you're one in a million, that sometimes you forget that out there
you're just one in 11." – Ted Lasso

Summary:
Born and raised in Winnipeg, but also very proud of his Polish heritage (which makes it awkward when Poland and Canada play each other in volleyball). Outside of volleyball, Marcel likes to fill his time with rec-sports, collecting records and learning various bits of random knowledge through interesting books or deep dives on the internet; this led him to become a co-found of a trivia group while he still lived in Churchill, MB.

He started teaching in 2016 while in China, while he was completing coursework for his degree. Currently, Marcel is a high school AP Biology teacher at Balmoral Hall School for Girls.

Coaching Objectives/Philosophy:
I am a student of the game and I strive to learn from other coaches around me to create new
opportunities for my athletes to improve and see the game differently. As I work with my teams, I
ensure they have a mastery of the fundamental skills so as they progress, they have a great
foundation on which to build upon.

Using sport, or athletics in general can be a critical aspect to a person’s development. It allows you to
gain confidence in yourself and allows you to prove to yourself that you can overcome any obstacles
that are in front of you. As a coach my goal is always to unlock those capabilities in my athletes, and
to unlock that you often have to fail a few times before you realize what it takes.
