Eku Malcolm - Club Director & Head Coach
Club Director | Head Coach | NCCP High Performance Trained / Level III Coach
Eku Malcolm is one of Manitoba’s most respected high-performance volleyball coaches, with 20+ years of experience developing athletes across the club, high school, provincial team, and post-secondary levels.
Since beginning his coaching career in 2005, Eku has built a reputation for creating competitive, disciplined, and athlete-centred environments where players are challenged to grow technically, mentally, physically, and as teammates. He has coached athletes from 14U through 18U, served as a Provincial Team Head Coach for a travel team in three of the last four summers, and coached at the post-secondary level as both Head Coach at Canadian Mennonite University and as an assistant coach with the University of Manitoba women’s program.
Eku is an NCCP High Performance Trained / Level III coach and continues to approach the game with a learner’s mindset. Over the past two years, he has attended the Ontario Volleyball Association Coaching Symposium during Volleyball Nations League weekend in Ottawa, learning from national team coaches, international coaches, and some of the top post-secondary coaches in Canada. His commitment to continued growth reflects the standard he brings to every team he coaches: keep learning, keep improving, and keep raising the level.
Eku will be returning to Dynamo for his tenth season. In September 2022, he took over as Club Director and has played a key role in shaping Dynamo’s high-performance culture, coaching standards, and long-term athlete development model.
Alongside his coaching partner Megan, Eku brings 35+ years of combined coaching experience across club, high school, provincial team, and post-secondary volleyball. Together, they have coached athletes from 14U through 18U and have been part of 15+ years of Top 10 finishes. Over the past five seasons, their teams have consistently finished among the top programs in the province, including 5+ straight years of Top 5 finishes at Provincials. Throughout their history, more than 20 athletes who have played for Megan/Eku have gone on to play post-secondary volleyball.
Most recently, the group Eku and Megan coached from 15U through 18U finished Top 5 at Provincials every year, won a Silver Medal at 18U Provincials in 2025, won a Bronze Medal at 18U Provincials in 2026, finished Top 8 at Best of the West, and helped eight athletes continue on to play post-secondary volleyball.
Eku’s coaching style is built on fundamentals, discipline, accountability, and team-first volleyball. He believes strong teams are built through clear standards, purposeful training, honest feedback, and athletes who understand how to contribute to something bigger than themselves. His teams are expected to compete hard, support each other, take ownership of their development, and bring a high standard to the gym every day.
More than anything, Eku is passionate about helping young athletes maximize their potential on and off the court. His goal is to prepare athletes for the next level of volleyball while helping them develop the leadership, resilience, confidence, and habits they will carry into the rest of their lives.
When he is not in the gym, Eku enjoys spending time with his wife and their pets.
Coaching Philosophy: Eku’s coaching philosophy is centred on helping athletes become exceptional volleyball players by maximizing their potential, building a positive team dynamic, and creating a training environment rooted in fundamentals. He believes athletes should understand how to improve from a technical, tactical, mental, and physical perspective.
His goal is to create an environment that is competitive, challenging, and enjoyable, while teaching the importance of leadership, teamwork, accountability, and commitment. Through volleyball, Eku strives to help athletes develop lessons and habits they can carry well beyond the court.
